MIke Church Bids Farewell to Thunderbird
 
Senior Drum Major and Lead Alto in Jazz One, Mike Church is leaving the Phoenix area to re-locate with his family out of state. We will miss him and wish him the best! Junior Travis Meyers has been selected to take over as the new Drum Major and will join Mimi Anderson in leading the band on the field.

Band Students Katie Gonzales & Vaughn Hillyard Receive Performing Arts Student of the Month Awards

Vaughn - Performing Arts Student of the Month for December
Katie was selected for her outstanding contribution to the drumline and excellent performance on trumpet as a member of Jazz II.
Vaughn was selected for his outstanding production of the marching season video and for his caring efforts in helping Saulo meet and spend time with Eric Byrnes
 
Saulo Morris spends some time with Diamonback's star player Eric Byrnes. The day's events were made possible through the efforts of THS Junior Vaughn Hillyard.

Students selected to participate in the Central AZ College Honor Band
 
THS band students enjoyed a day in beautiful Coolidge to perform as members of the Central Arizona College Honor Band. Students selected were Samantha Billings, Katie Gonzales, Hannah Corrigan, Michael Baranowski, and Thomas Gruetzemacher. The performance was held on November 20th.
   
     
                                   
Senior Nick Arocho was named the Performing Arts Student of the Month for April. In selecting amongst all of the Student of the Month recipients for the school year, Nick was selected as the Performing Arts Student of the Year. His work with the THS drumline and jazz programs went above and beyond expectations and the job he did was absolutely tremendous. In addition, Nick was a co-recipient of the John Phillips Sousa Band Award.
 
     
                                 
Senior Katie Routh was selected as co-recipient for the John Phillips Sousa Band Award. She was selected for the GUHSD Honor Band and was a member of the AMEA All-Southwest Region Honor Band. In addition, Katie has been a regular volunteer with the Beat Goes On program, which helps elementary kids with music after school.
